Start with the decision
A dashboard is useful when it helps someone act. Ask which decision needs better information, who owns it and how often it must be made. Programme colleagues can explain the context that a technical specification may miss.
Make uncertainty part of the view
Data may arrive late, use different definitions or cover only part of a programme. Show those limitations clearly. Use AI to assist preparation or exploration where appropriate, with access controls and a person responsible for reviewing the result.
Build a learning rhythm
Agree a short review cycle. Ask whether the information was understandable, whether it changed a decision and what still needed to be checked elsewhere. This makes the first iteration a practical way to learn, rather than a finished answer that nobody revisits.
Take one useful step.
- Name one decision and its owner.
- Show freshness, coverage and uncertainty beside the information.
- Review how the insight was used, not just whether it was opened.
